Minotabs Information

Minotabs contains the main active ingredient called minocycline. Minotabs belongs to the group tetracycline, which is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Minotabs works by interfering with the ability of the bacteria to produce proteins, which is very essential to the growth and increase of numbers to the bacteria. Minotabs is active against many tetracyclines that are resistant strains of organisms such as staphylococci, streptococci and E. colii.

Minotabs Indications

Minotabs is indicated for the treatment different infections due to susceptible of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, which includes the following infections:

• Laryngotracheitis
• Tracheobronchitis
• Bronchitis
• Bronchiolitis
• Bronchiectasis
• Bronchopneumonia
• Pneumonia
• lung abscess
• Pyelonephritis
• Cystitis
• Prostatitis
• Gonococcal urethritis
• Nonspecific urethritis
• Skin abscess
• Cystid and pustular acne
• Cellulitis
• Infected dermatitis
• Folliculitis
• Furunculosis

Minotabs Warnings

Before taking Minotabs tell your doctor if you have:

• Severe renal insufficiency

Do not take Minotabs if you are allergic to its active ingredient or any of its inactive ingredients. If you have an allergy to Minotabs, stop taking Minotabs and immediately tell your doctor about it.

Minotabs should not be used during pregnancy as it may present harm to the unborn baby. Seek medical advice. The safety of Minotabs for use during pregnancy has not been established.

Minotabs is known to pass in small amounts in the breast milk. Caution should be used while taking Minotabs if you are breastfeeding an infant. Talk to your doctor for more information about Minotabs and nursing an infant.

The safety of Minotabs in children has not been established.

Minotabs Intake Guidelines

Try taking each dose of Minotabs at the same time each day for best and most effective results.

Chances or risks of having side effects may be increased if a large amount of Minotabs is prolonged in use.

Take Minotabs at regular interval. Complete the prescribed course of Minotabs unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Stopping the course early increases the chance that the infection will come back and that the bacteria will grow resistant to the antibiotic.

Minotabs Dosage

Take Minotabs exactly as prescribed by you doctor or as directed in the package. If you have any problems understanding it, ask your doctor about it. Your doctor will tell you how many tablets you need to take each day.

Dosage depends on the condition of the patient accordingly:

For treatment of acne vulgaris: 100 mg daily, given as a single dose or 50-mg twice daily

For treatment of Non-gonococcal urethritis: 100 mg daily for 10-14 days.

For treatment of Gonorrhoea: Adult males: 200 mg initially followed by 100 mg every 12 hours for a minimum of 4 days with post-therapy cultures within 2-3 days.

Adult females: 200 mg initially followed by 100 mg for 10-14 days

For treatment of systemic infections: The usual dosage of Minotabs is 100 mg every 12 hours.

For treatment of Prophylaxis of asymptomatic meningococcal carriers: 100 mg bid for five days, usually followed by a course of rifampicin.

Usual pediatric dose: 4 mg/kg followed by 2 mg/kg every 12 hours

Minotabs Overdose

Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect any symptoms of an overdose of Minotabs.

There are no reported incidences of a Minotabs overdose.

Minotabs Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Minotabs as soon as you remember. However, it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Minotabs to avoid unwanted adverse side effects.

Minotabs Side Effects

Along with the needed effects, Minotabs also has unwanted adverse effects. Tell your doctor if side effects occur.

• Anorexia
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Glossitis
• Dysphagia
• Enterocolitis
• Pancreatitis
• Inflammatory lesions in the anogenital region
• Esophagitis
• Esophageal ulceration
• Increase in liver enzymes
• Hepatitis
• Acute liver failure
• Maculopapular and erythematous rashes
• Exfoliative dermatitis
• Balanitis
• Erythema multiforme
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome
• Pigmentation of the skin and mucous membranes
• Nail discoloration
• Photosensitivity
• Tooth discoloration
• Rise in plasma urea
• Reversible acute renal failure
• Urticaria
• Angioneurotic edema
• Anaphylaxis
• Anaphylactoid purpura
• Pericarditis
• Polyarthralgia
• Exacerbation of systemic lupus erythematosus
• Pulmonary infiltrates with oesinophilia
• hemolytic anemia
• Thrombocytopenia
• neutropenia
• Eosinophilia
• Brown-black microscopic discoloration of thyroid glands
• Dizziness
• Vertigo
• Bulging fontanelles
• Pseudotumor cerebri
• Headache
• Blurred vision

All of these side effects may not occur in one time. Side effects other than those listed in this medication guide may also occur. Talk to your doctor if side effects that seem unusual or especially bothersome occur.

Minotabs Drug Reactions

Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. Talk to your doctor before using any medicines. Minotabs and some medicines may interfere with each other.

Before taking Minotabs tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• Antacids
• Vitamins that contain aluminum, calcium, magnesium or iron
• iron tablets
• zinc salts
• penicillins
• oral contraceptive pill
• anticoagulant therapies
