CORGARD (NADOLOL)

Corgard Information

Corgard is a drug also known under the name of Nadolol. Corgard is a medicine that belongs to a wide class of medicines called beta-blockers. Like any other beta-blocker, Corgard affects the body’s circulatory system, which includes the arteries, veins and the heart.

Corgard Indications

Corgard is normally prescribed in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and in the cases of patients who are suffering from angina. But Corgard (Nadolol) can also serve other purposes that have not been mentioned here.

Corgard Warnings

Taking Corgard might cause you harm if you are suffering from at least one of the following medical conditions:

• Asthma
• Diabetes
• Thyroid disease
• Heart problems (slow heart rate, low blood pressure, heart failure, sick sinus syndrome)
• Liver disease
• Depression
• Kidney disease
• Circulatory disease

Corgard is a Category C FDA pregnancy drug. Therefore the effects that this drug has on a growing fetus are not known. It has not been yet established whether Corgard has the ability to pass into breast milk. However, if you are breastfeeding an infant you might not want to start taking this medicine without first consulting with your physician. 
Corgard can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and changes in your blood pressure. Be cautious if you have to drive or perform hazardous activities during a treatment with Corgard. Avoid consuming alcohol during your treatment with this drug.

Corgard Intake Guidelines

Ask your doctor to give you some advices regarding how you should take Corgard (you must not ignore any of them). If you have any other questions you can ask your doctor, a pharmacist or a nurse. Every single dose of this drug can be accompanied by a glass of water.
You should accompany this drug with food, because this helps reduce the dizziness. Try to take Corgard regularly. You should not stop your treatment with Corgard without your doctor’s consent.

Ask your physician to tell you the dose of Corgard that suits you best. The correct amount of drug varies from one person to another, because it depends on several factors (among them: body weight, the disorder’s severity, etc).

Corgard Overdose

If you have Corgard overdose are you may experience the following:

• Nausea
• Fainting
• Slow heart beat
• Dizziness
• Vomiting
• Confusion
• Weakness

If you think that you are suffering from an overdose with Corgard you might be in need of immediate medical attention. You should contact your local poison control center. Try to inform your personal physician as soon as possible.  

Corgard Missed Dose

Corgard gives the best results in the cases of patients that take it regularly. Therefore, if you are following a treatment with this drug, you should try not to miss any dose. If you do happen to miss one you should take it as soon as you can and then continue with your regular schedule. If it is already time for another dose, skip the dose that you have missed. Double doses are not recommended.

Corgard Side Effects

Taking Corgard can lead to some serous side effects such as:

• Breathing difficulty
• Shortness of breath
• Throat closing
• Hives
• Chest pain
• Swelling of the face, tongue and lips
• Wheezing
• Leg pain
• Abnormal weight gain
• Irregular or unusually slow heartbeat
• Swelling of the lower legs, ankles and feet
• Unusually blue or cold feet and hands
• Leg pain
• Rash

If you find yourself experiencing some of these symptoms, you should discontinue your treatment with Corgard and seek medical attention. Inform your doctor of this.
Corgard can also lead to other less serious but more common side effects:

• Weak pulse or mildly slow heart rate
• Fatigue
• Dizziness
• Depression
• Diarrhea, gas, nausea, constipation, or vomiting
• Nightmares

In these cases, you may continue using Corgard but you should inform your personal physician. 
There are other side effects that can be triggered while you are taking this drug (Corgard). Inform your personal doctor at once if you experience anything out of the ordinary while taking this drug.

Corgard Drug Reactions

Avoid taking the following drugs during your treatment with Corgard:

• Heart medicines like reserpine, nifedipine, diltiazem, verapamil, digoxin, clonidine, doxazosin, terazosin, quanadrel or prazosin 
• Stomach medications
• Anti-inflammatory non steroidal medicine
• Diabetes medication
• Respiratory medications

There are other drugs that can interact with Corgard. Inform your doctor before you start a treatment with any other drug except Corgard.
