Navoban Information

Navoban is a pharmaceutical product based on Tropisetron, a substance that inhibits the action of serotonin in the organism. Serotonin is believed to be the main factor in triggering nausea and vomiting and, by inhibiting its effects, Navoban helps reduce these symptoms in patients that undergo chemotherapy or surgery.

Navoban Indications

Navoban is typically employed as a prophylactic agent to prevent the appearance of nausea and vomiting in patients that are susceptible to developing these side effects due to medication therapy (such as patients undergoing chemotherapy for cancer) or due to surgery. At times, your prescriber may decide to employ the use of this drug in other situations – therefore, if you are not sure why you have been prescribed a treatment with Navoban, it is best to ask your personal physician for further information.

Navoban Warnings

Navoban is not suitable for use in the case of children, of pregnant women or of breast feeding mothers. The safety of this pharmaceutical product has not been established for patients belonging to these categories and therefore it would be best to avoid usage of this drug in such cases. Also, this product may not be prescribed or administered to patients with a known or suspected hypersensitivity to Tropisetron or any of the other ingredient substances of this product, or to patients that are allergic to similar drugs.

Special precautions and dosage adjustments may be required in the case of patients that are suffering from kidney, liver or heart disorders or in the case of patients that have uncontrolled hypertension. If you have any of the above medical conditions it is best that you consult with your personal health care provider before starting a therapy course with Navoban.

Navoban Intake Guidelines

Unless otherwise specified by the prescriber, you should take the Navoban capsules with a full glass of water immediately after getting up in the morning. It is also recommended that you do not ingest any food for at least one hour after an intake of this drug. Your prescribing health care professional may direct you to take the Navoban capsules in a different way. In such cases you should follow your prescriber’s indications. Navoban Dosage

If you are receiving Navoban prior to surgery, the supervising doctor will typically administer a single 2 mg dose of the drug through an injection or IV infusion. In cases when the medicine needs to be administered after surgery in order to control nausea and vomiting, another dose of 2 mg may be employed.

Patients that are following chemotherapy will be administered a 5 mg dose of Navoban through IV drip or through injection before starting the treatment. Afterwards they will continue to take daily doses of 5 mg under the form of capsules as directed by the supervising health care provider, for up to another 5 days.

The prescriber will decide upon the medication dosage to be employed on a case-by-case basis after taking into account a number of factors that are particular to each case. Navoban Overdose

An overdose with this medicine may cause a serious health hazard. It is imperative that you do not take higher doses of Navoban or for longer than directed. If at any time you think you may be affected by an overdose with this drug you should immediately call the regional or local poisons center or go to the nearest hospital or clinic. Prompt medical assistance may be required.

The most common symptoms of a Navoban overdose are visual hallucinations. In the case of patients suffering from hypertension, it is common for their blood pressure to rise even higher.

Navoban Missed Dose

If you have accidentally forgotten to take one of your prescribed Navoban doses and it is almost time for another intake of the medicine, it is best that you completely skip the missed dose and continue with your normal medication schedule, making sure you do not miss any more doses. If less than 12 hours have passed since the time you should have taken the dose, you may take it when you remember and continue with your regular medication schedule. You should never take a double dose of Navoban in order to compensate for a missed one. Your health care professional can assist you in setting up an intake schedule that will help reduce the chances of accidentally missing any doses of the medicine.

Navoban Side Effects

Navoban may cause several serious side effects such as allergic reactions, fainting, tightness in the chest or heart beat changes. Apart from these, a number of less severe side effects are possible: constipation, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, sleepiness, tiredness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, appetite loss, hot flushes among others. At any point during your Navoban therapy you should inform your doctor of any unexpected adverse reactions you may happen to experience.

Navoban Drug Reactions

Navoban may interact with Rifampicin, Phenobarbital, heart medication and other drugs that have shown to cause you heart rhythm problems in the past. Inform your prescriber of any drugs you are taking before starting a therapy with this pharmaceutical product.
