Zestoretic Information

Zestoretic is a popular water pill (thiazide diuretic) that has proven itself to be highly efficient in the prevention of fluid retention (that is generally caused by abnormally high salt absorption). This product belongs to a wide class of medicines that is generally referred to as ACE inhibitors (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors).

While you are using Zestoretic you should avoid consuming any products that contain alcohol, as this is known to increase this medicine’s side effects. During your intake of Zestoretic you should avoid becoming dehydrated or overheated (avoid hot weather and exhaustive exercises). Your personal physician might advise you to drink plenty of fluids during your treatment with this medicine.

A treatment with this product is known to impair the patient’s reactions and / or thinking. While you are using Zestoretic you should avoid performing any sort of activities that are known to require either mental or physical alertness (this includes driving). You should not start taking this drug if you are suffering from known allergic reactions to any of its ingredients. Before you take this medicine you should inform your personal health care specialist if you are suffering from allergies to any foods, dyes, preservatives or any other substances (this includes other medicines, especially sulfa drugs).  

Some medical disorders are known to sometimes prevent a patient from starting a treatment with Zestoretic. Patients who have any of the medical disorders that are listed below should not be allowed to start using this medicine or should be prescribed a lower dose of it (also, their treatment with this medicine should be closely monitored by their personal health care provider):

• kidney disorder;
• liver disease;
• asthma;
• heart rhythm disorder or congestive heart failure;
• allergies;
• high cholesterol;
• diabetes;
• Gout.

Zestoretic Intake Guidelines

Ask your personal health care specialist to give you a set of precise and detailed instructions regarding how and when you should take your doses of Zestoretic. If you have failed to understand some of them you should ask a nurse or a pharmacist for further advice and recommendations. If you are in need of more information about this medicine or about your treatment with it, you should simply consult the drug’s label. Do not stop your treatment with Zestoretic without your physician’s approval, as this could trigger several severe side effects.

Each dose of Zestoretic should be accompanied by a full glass of liquid. As this drug is not known to be a stomach irritant, you may take it either on a full or on an empty stomach. During your treatment with Zestoretic you will probably have to undergo several blood tests to make sure that this medicine is working properly. Severe diarrhea, vomiting, or heavy sweating is known to trigger dehydration that can lead to electrolyte disorders, low blood pressure, or kidney failure. Such medical conditions are extremely dangerous during your treatment with this medicine; therefore you should drink plenty of water each day while you are using Zestoretic.

If you have to undergo any sort of operation (surgery) during your treatment with this medicine you should make sure that the surgeon knows that you are using this medicine (you might have to stop using this product for a short while). This medicine should be kept at the average room temperature, away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Do not store it in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink.

Zestoretic Dosage

Ask your personal doctor to tell you the exact dose of Zestoretic that you should take in on a regular basis. During your treatment with this product your personal physician might want to change your dose of Zestoretic. Do not deviate from any of your physician’s instructions.

Zestoretic Overdose

If you suspect that you might be suffering from an overdose with this medicine you should seek emergency medical care. A Zestoretic overdose could trigger weakness, nausea, fainting, dry mouth muscle pain, thirst, muscle weakness, and feeling light-headed.

Zestoretic Missed Dose

It is very important to try and take your prescribed doses of Zestoretic at their proper time. If you miss taking a dose of this drug you should use it as soon as you recall. If it is time for another dose, you must skip the one that you have missed. It is strictly forbidden to take extra doses of this product without your physician’s approval.

Zestoretic Side Effects

Zestoretic’s less severe side effects include:

• mild vomiting, nausea, or stomach pain;
• diarrhea or constipation;
• drowsiness, dizziness, headache;
• cough;
• blurred vision;
• mild skin rash or itching.

Zestoretic Drug Reactions

During your treatment with Zestoretic you should avoid taking any of these medicines:

• blood pressure drugs;
• colestipol (Colestid);
• cholestyramine (Questran, Prevalite);
• lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid);
• digoxin (Lanoxin);
• oral diabetes drugs;
• insulin;
• steroids;
• aspirin;
• other water pills.
