Belonging to the anti migraine agent category, Zomig is the brand name of Zolmitriptan. The drug is especially helpful in migraine and other vascular headache. One of the most effective and trusted name amongst anti migraine drugs, Zomig functions by causing vasoconstriction or narrowing down of blood vessels around the brain. Zolmitriptan is also known to lessen the flow of those substances in the body that gives rise to excruciating pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and all other migraine symptoms. Although used to treat vascular headaches like Migraine, it should be made clear that Zomig cannot get rid of migraine. Zomig Warnings

• naratriptan (Amerge)
• rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT)
• sumatriptan (Imitrex)
• citalopram (Celexa)
• escitalopram (Lexapro)
• fluoxetine (Prozac)
• fluvoxamine (Luvox)
• paroxetine (Paxil)
• sertraline (Zoloft)
• cimetidine (Tagamet HB)

Also try to avoid drinking alcoholic beverages as that can make situations worst.

Zomig Side Effects

Though a tested and trusted name, Zomig has certain side effects apart from its beneficial effects. The most common side effects of Zomig are excruciating chest pain, heaviness, tightness, or pressure in chest and/or neck, burning sensation, warmth, heat, numbness, tightness, or tingling followed by dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, fatigue etc.

Zomig can also give rise to side effects like breathing trouble, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, irregular heartbeat, sudden stomach pain, altered vision etc. Amongst the rare side effects of Zomig, so far, a gitation, anxiety, depression, discomfort in jaw, mouth, or throat, dry mouth, fainting, itching of the skin, urination difficulty & increased frequency, profuse sweating, swelling of face, fingers, feet and/or lower legs have been reported.

Zomig users can also have sudden chills and loss of appetite. If you have any of such side effects, rush to your doctor for immediate medical measure.

Zomig Overdose

It is never safe to read about a drug & start taking it all by yourself. Your doctor is the right person to assess your medical condition and prescribe the right dose for you. So far no fatal cases caused by overdose intake of Zomig have been reported. But you never know. So always avoid over dose. The most common symptom of Zomig overdose is sedation. Normally Zomig is taken in as soon as the symptoms of Migraine occur. One or one-half of a regular Zomig tablet is taken in with a glass of water. It helps more if you can take some rest by lying down in a quiet, dark room for a while after you use this medicine.
