Zanaflex Warnings

Zanaflex is a short-acting drug. You should take this product only when you need to relief your muscle spasticity. You should not start using this drug if you are following a treatment with Cipro or with Luvox. You should avoid taking a dose of this medicine at a time when you need to maintain your balance in order to accomplish a certain activity. In such cases, a reduced muscle tone could actually endanger your physical safety.

Switching between Zanaflex capsules and tablets, changing the time of day when you take your doses of this medicine or changing your regular diet could decrease the medicine’s beneficial effects and increase its unpleasant side effects. You should not use more than 36 mg of Zanaflex (approximately 3 doses of this medicine) in less than 24 hours. Extra high doses of this medicine could cause severe liver damage. During your treatment with this medicine you should avoid taking allergy or cold drugs, narcotic pain drugs, medicines that treat seizures, anxiety or depression, sleeping pills, etc, as these medicines are known to increase the sleepiness that is a side effect of this product. While you are following a treatment with this medicine you should also avoid consuming any alcoholic beverages (or any other products that contain alcohol), as this increases this medicine’s side effects.
 
Before you start a treatment with Zanaflex you should inform your personal health care provider if you are suffering from known allergic reactions to any foods, dyes, preservatives or other medicines or if you are suffering from:

• liver disorders;
• kidney disorders;
• low or high blood pressure;
• "Long QT syndrome."

In case you do have any of the medical conditions that have been listed here, you might not be allowed to start taking Zanaflex or it might be best for you to be prescribed a lower dose of this medicine. During your treatment with this product you should undergo regular tests in order for your personal health care provider to effectively monitor your body’s response to the medicine.

Zanaflex is a category C FDA pregnancy medicine. Therefore, a treatment with this drug during pregnancy could harm a growing fetus. If you are pregnant, or if you want to become pregnant soon, you should ask your personal physician if you can start a treatment with this medicine. It has not been determined whether this drug’s components are able to pass into the patient’s breast milk or not. If you are nursing a child, you should ask a doctor if you may start using this product. Elderly patients (over 60 years old) are known to be more prone to experience this medicine’s side effects. The muscle-relaxing effect of this drug lasts longer in their case too.

Zanaflex Intake Guidelines

Ask your personal health care provider (your doctor) to tell you exactly how you should take each dose of Zanaflex. Do not deviate from any of your physician’s instructions or directions. If you fail to understand some of them, you should immediately consult a pharmacist or a nurse and ask them to explain them to you. If you need any additional information regarding this medicine you should carefully read the drug’s label.

Each dose of Zanaflex should be accompanied by a full glass of liquid. As this drug is a short-acting product, its effects will not last for more than 6 hours. You should wait at least 8 hours to pass between two subsequent doses of this medicine. Ask your personal health care provider whether you should take your doses of this medicine on a full or on an empty stomach, as this is known to influence your tizanidine blood levels. During your treatment with this medicine you should undergo regular liver tests. Avoid missing any of your doctor’s appointments.

You must not stop your treatment with Zanaflex without your physician’s approval. This drug is known to trigger withdrawal symptoms like fast heartbeat, dizziness, anxiety, tremors, and increased spasticity, especially after a long term treatment with it. This product should be stored in a place that is far from the reach of pets and children, in order to avoid unpleasant accidents like poisoning. Keep this drug in a cool and dry place (not in the bathroom or anywhere near the kitchen sink).

Zanaflex Dosage

Zanaflex Overdose

If you think that you could be suffering from an overdose with this product you should seek medical care right away. Alert your local poison control centre and your personal physician at once. You might have to go to the nearest emergency room in order to receive a proper treatment for your condition. The average symptoms of an overdose with Zanaflex include confusion, drowsiness, shallow breathing, slow heart rate, fainting, feeling light-headed, or coma.

Zanaflex Missed Dose

If you happen to miss one of your prescribed doses of Zanaflex, you should take it as soon as you can. However, if it is already time for another scheduled dose, you should skip the one that you have missed and proceed with your regular dosing treatment. Do not take extra doses of Zanaflex without your personal physician’s approval.

Zanaflex Side Effects

Talk to your personal doctor at once if you experience anything that is unusual or bothersome during or shortly after using Zanaflex.
