Nozinan Information

Nozinan is a popular medicine that belongs to a wide class of drugs also known as Phenothiazines. This type of medicines are usually used in the treatment of some severe emotional and mental disorders (this includes psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia). Some drugs are also used in order to control agitation, severe vomiting and nausea, severe pain or hiccups. Nozinan is also prescribed in the treatment of some types of Porphyria, and, if it is combined with other medications, in the treatment of tetanus.

Before you start taking Nozinan, you should consider the following:

Allergic Reactions—You should alert your personal doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to phenothiazines. Also tell your physician if you are suffering from any allergic reactions to foods, dyes, preservatives or to any other substances. This medicine is known to contain sulfites, tartrazine or parabens.

Pregnancy—This medicine has not been studied on pregnant women. However, some of this drug’s side effects (such as movement disorders and jaundice) have appeared in some newborns (babies) whose mothers had followed a treatment with this medicine during pregnancy. When studied on animals, this drug has shown that if it is given during pregnancy, it may lead to several birth defects and unsuccessful pregnancies. If you are pregnant or if you are planning to be so soon, you should not start taking this medicine without your personal physician’s approval. A treatment with this medicine is known to decrease the patient’s milk flow. This drug’s ingredients can and sometimes pass into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding an infant, you should ask your personal physician if it is safe to start taking this drug. 

Children—Some of this drug’s side effects (for example muscle spasms of the neck, face and back, twitching or tic-tac movements, twisting of the body, inability to move the eyes, weakness of the legs and of the arms, etc) are more likely to occur in children, because they are known to be much more sensitive to the effects of phenothiazines (Nozinan) than adults are.

Older adults—Trouble urinating, constipation, confusion, dryness of mouth, problems with memory, fainting or dizziness, drowsiness, trembling of the fingers and hands, and problems with the patient’s muscle movement (for example unusual or decreased movements) are known to occur much more often in the case of elderly patients.

Other medical problems—Some medical conditions are known to sometimes interact with your treatment with Nozinan. Before you start taking this drug, you should alert your personal physician if you are suffering from any other medical conditions, especially:

• Alcohol abuse
• Blood disorders
• Difficult urination
• Breast Cancer
• Glaucoma
• Blood vessel or heart disease
• Seizure disorders
• Parkinson’s disease
• Stomach ulcers
• Brain blood vessels disease
• Brain damage
• Enlarged prostate
• Liver disorders
• Lung disorders
• Kidney disorders
• Reye’s syndrome

If you have any of the medical conditions that have been mentioned here, you might not be allowed to start taking Nozinan or you might have to take in a lower dose of the drug. Your doctor might want to monitor your treatment with this drug in order to see how your body reacts to the treatment.

Nozinan Intake Guidelines

Ask your doctor how and when you should take Nozinan in order to get the proper benefits from your treatment with it. You should not disobey any of the advices that your personal doctor has given you. If you do not understand some of them, you ought to ask a pharmacist, a doctor or a nurse. Read the instructions on the drug’s label for more information.
 
You must avoid taking less or more of this medicine than your physician has prescribed you. You must not stop your treatment with this medicine even if you start feeling better already without your personal physician’s approval.

Nozinan Dosage

You should ask your doctor to calculate the correct dose of Nozinan that suits you best. To make sure that you take in the correct amount of medicine (if you are suing the liquid form of the drug), please use a measuring device such as a measuring cup or a measuring spoon (not a regular spoon). Try to take this medicine at a regular basis (preferably at the same time each day). Do not make any alterations to the dose that you have been prescribed without your physician’s approval.

Nozinan Overdose

If you think that you are suffering from an overdose with Nozinan you should seek medical care at once.

Nozinan Missed Dose

If you happen to miss a dose of Nozinan, ask your physician for further instructions.
