OCUFEN

OCUFEN

Ocufen Information

Ocufen is a popular medicine that belongs to a wide class of medicines also known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (drugs). Such medicines are known to reduce pain and inflammation; therefore, this drug is able to relieve eye inflammation and eye pain. This drug is also used in order to prevent an unwanted pupil constriction that might occur during surgery.

Ocufen Indications

Ocufen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicine that is widely used in order to reduce and to prevent eye inflammation and pain (it also helps reduce the risk of developing pupil constriction, especially during surgery). However, this medicine can also serve other purposes that have not been listed here.

Ocufen Warnings

You must not allow Ocufen’s dropper to touch any surface (this also includes your hands and your eyes). The medicine’s dropper is sterile, and it should remain so. If the dropper some how becomes contaminated, it might trigger an unpleasant (and sometimes dangerous) infection in your eye.

After each drop of Ocufen you should apply light pressure to your eye’s inside corner in order to prevent the medicine from going into the tear duct. You should not start using this medicine if you are suffering from a herpes eye infection.

Before you use this medicine, you should alert your personal physician if you

  • have any type of blood clotting or bleeding disease,
  • are suffering from stomach ulcers,
  • have recently undergone a surgery.

Under these circumstances, you might not be allowed to start using Ocufen, or you might have to administer a lower dose of this medicine.

Ocufen is a category C FDA pregnancy medicine. Therefore it is not known whether a treatment with this medicine is able to cause birth defects. You should not start a treatment with this drug without your physician’s approval if you are pregnant or if you plan to be so soon. It has not been clearly established whether this medicine’s ingredients are able to pass into breast milk or not. You should ask your personal physician if it is safe to start taking this drug if you are breastfeeding an infant.

Ocufen Intake Guidelines

Ask your doctor to tell you how and when to use this drug. You can also rely on the instructions that are written in the drug’s label. If you are in need of further explanations, you should ask a nurse, a doctor or a pharmacist. Before you use Ocufen eye drops you should wash both your hands

In order to apply the Ocufen eye drops:

  • Slightly tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid down. Position the medicine’s dropper above one of your eyes. You should look up and away from the drug’s dropper. After you have squeezed out a single drop you should close your eye. 1 minute after you have administered the eye drop you should apply a slight pressure to the eye’s inside corner. If you have been prescribed by your personal physician to use more than one drop (several eye drops) in one eye, you should repeat the process every 5 minutes (for as many times as it is necessary).

You should not use Ocufen if the solution has particles in it or if it has a strange color. You should store this medicine away from moisture and heat, at the average room temperature. You must keep your drug bottle properly capped at all times. Keep the medicine away from the reach of pets and children in order to avoid unpleasant (and possibly dangerous) accidents such as poisoning.

Ocufen Dosage

Ask your doctor to tell you the dose of Ocufen (the proper number of eye drops) that should work best in your case (the correct dosage of this drug is known to vary from one patient to another, so it is highly recommended that you should not make adjustments to the dose that you have been prescribed without your personal physician’s approval).

Ocufen Overdose

Although an overdose of this drug is unlikely to occur, if you suspect that you are suffering from it you are probably in need of immediate medical care / attention. Contact your local emergency room and your personal physician. If you have ingested Ocufen, you should drink plenty of liquids and seek emergency medical care.

Ocufen Missed Dose

In order to get the most benefits from your treatment with Ocufen, you should take it on a regular basis. If you miss one of your scheduled doses, you should take it as soon as you can. If it is about time for another dose, skip the one that you have accidentally missed and continue with your normal dosing schedule. Do not administer double doses of this drug without your physician’s approval.

Ocufen Side Effects

This medicine should not trigger any severe side effects. The average Ocufen side effects usually include eye burning, stinging, itching, irritation, redness, or abnormally high sensitivity to direct light. You may continue using Ocufen, but you should alert your personal physician as soon as possible if you experience anything unusual during your treatment with it.

Ocufen Drug Reactions

While following a treatment with Ocufen, you should avoid using any other type of drugs or eye drops, especially carbachol (Carboptic, Carbachol, Isopto) and acetylcholine chloride (Miochol) without your personal physician’s approval. These medicines are known to decrease Ocufen’s effectiveness. Ask your personal physician if it is safe to take any other medicines during a treatment with this drug.
