Olbetam Information

Olbetam is a medicine based on the main ingredient Acipimox, a substance which acts by lowering the lipoprotein levels in the blood, in particular the low and very low density lipoproteins. While this can generally be done by dietary means alone, in some cases a diet regimen is not sufficient to control the low and very low density lipoprotein levels leading to the need to support the dietary therapy through medication.

Olbetam Indications

Olbetam is generally prescribed in the case of patients that are suffering from such affections as cholesterol and triglyceride excess in their blood – generally medical conditions where the patients’ lipids levels are too high. Olbetam may also be used (in monotherapy as well as in combination with other medication) for the treatment of other medical conditions that are not listed here. Olbetam Warnings

Olbetam may not be safe for use in patients with decreased renal functions – in the presence of severe impairment the patient may not start a therapy course with this medicine at all. Individuals suffering from peptic ulcers may not start a treatment course with this medicine. Also, other medical conditions may affect your therapy course with this drug. Make sure that your prescriber is fully aware of your general health condition before starting a therapy course with Olbetam.

This drug may not be safe for use during pregnancy or lactation; if you are pregnant or breast feeding, it is best to seek the advice of your personal health care provider in order to determine the benefits and risks of the Olbetam therapy.

Olbetam should not be administered to individuals that are known or suspected to be allergic to Acipimox or any of the other ingredients of this pharmaceutical product.

Olbetam Intake Guidelines

Olbetam Overdose

An overdose with Olbetam is a severe medical condition which may result in long term or permanent damage to your general health condition and as such should be avoided at all times. Olbetam Missed Dose

If you happen to miss one of your Olbetam intakes, it is best that you take it as soon as possible – unless another dose of the medicine is almost due. In such situations you are advised to completely skip taking the missed dose and continue taking the remaining doses on time. You should contact your physician and let him or her know about this matter, as corrective measures may be in order.

Olbetam Side Effects

As most drugs, Olbetam may cause a series of side effects. However, the chances of this happening decrease if the medicine is taken exactly as recommended by the prescribing health care professional.

At the beginning of the Olbetam therapy you may experience a number of adverse reactions which will go away in time – they are caused by your organism adjusting to the medication. However, if any of these symptoms become persistent or particularly bothersome, it is best that you consult with your personal physician regarding this situation.

Olbetam may cause a number of severe side effects, characterized by signs and symptoms such as headaches, abdominal pain, heartburn, diarrhea, flushing, bronchospasm or eye dryness. Olbetam Drug Reactions
