Bactigras Information

Bactigras is a wound dressing which helps in the inhibition of the growth of vegetative gram-positive and gram-negative organisms in vitro. It consists of cotton leno-weave fabric saturated with soft paraffin BP and contains 0.5% of clorhexidine.

It is soothing and is low adherent, meaning it does not fully adhere to the wound giving the wound sufficient ventilation. It allows the viscous exudates of the wound to drain freely into an absorbent secondary layer of dressing.

Bactigras Indications

Bactigras is used in the adjunctive treatment and prevention of infection in skin loss lesions, which includes wounds, burns, and ulcers. It is used as a dressing for wounds to prevent infection.

It may be used in the following:

• Minor burns and scalding of any type
• Lacerations, abrasions and other types of skin loss wounds
• Donor and recipient graft sites
• Leg ulcers

It may also be used for other purposes aside from the ones mentioned here.

Bactigras Warnings

Bactigras may be incompatible with patients who have a known, suspected sensitivity to its main component which is chlorhexidine. It is also incompatible with anionic surfactants and other anionic compounds.
Bactigras should not be in contact with the eyes, middle ear, meninges and the brain and other mucous membranes. It should not cover more than 10% of the body’s skin surface.

Bactigras Intake Guidelines

Bactigras is a wound dressing. It should be applied to wound surface directly, single layer only and with forceps. It should all be done on sterile conditions.

Before application of Bactigras, the wound should be thoroughly cleansed with a normal solution of sterile saline. The dressing should be changed according to the directions of the doctor. The dressing must be changed daily due to the risk of infection.

Bactigras Dosage

Dosage of this drug should be obtained form your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors. Make sure you follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not apply more than your doctor has directed for it may cause undesirable side effects.

Bactigras Overdose

Overdose of this drug has no recorded side effects. No symptoms of toxicity have been found on the overdose of Bactigras.

Bactigras Missed Dose

The application of Bactigras should be changed at least once a day to prevent the risk of infection. Make sure you follow your doctor’s instructions and inform him if you somehow hadn’t changed the dressing according to schedule. However, a frequently changed dressing is essential to ensure the faster healing of the wound.

Bactigras Side Effects

Bactigras may have any of the following rare side effects:

• Photosensitivity or sensitivity to light
• Hypersensitivity
• Contact eczema

Stop using Bactigras and inform your doctor at the soonest possible time if you experience any of these rare side effects.

Bactigras has not been known to cause any serious side effects but only slight skin irritation or sensitization and there has been no reported pain on application.
