Trisul Information

Trisul is a drug that consists of two active ingredients, sulphamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Trisul is a drug that belongs to a wide class of medicines also commonly known as antibiotics. Like any other antibiotic, Trisul stops the growth of the harmful bacteria that causes the patient’s infection.

Trisul is widely prescribed to patients suffering from infections of the lower and upper respiratory tract, urinary tract and bowel.

Trisul Indications

Trisul Warnings

You must not take this drug after the expiry date that is written on the drug’s label or if the drug package shows any tampering signs.
You ought to keep your Trisul tablets in the drug’s package until you start taking it.
Trisul is not recommended in the case of children under 6 weeks or to prematurely born infants.

You may not be allowed to take Trisul if you are suffering from:

Allergic reactions to sulphamethoxazole, trimethoprim, foods, dyes, preservatives or any other substances;
anaemia
a dangerously low number of white blood cells
a dangerously low platelet number

You must alert your doctor before you start taking Trisul if:

you have allergic reactions to diabetes drugs, diuretics (also known as fluid tablets), or any drug that is normally used in the treatment of an overactive thyroid
you are suffering from blood disorders (this includes Porphyria)
you are suffering from kidney or liver disorders
you are suffering from epilepsy
you are suffering from allergic conditions (this also includes asthma)
you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis
you are suffering from malnutrition or malabsorption syndrome
you are suffering from a folate deficiency
you are or are planning to become pregnant
you are or are planning to breastfeed an infant

Trisul Intake Guidelines

You must inform you personal physician if you become pregnant or if you develop hives or skin rashes during your treatment with Trisul. If you are planning to have a surgery, you must alert the anesthetist or the surgeon that you are following a treatment with Trisul.

Trisul Dosage

Ask your doctor to tell you the amount of Trisul that you should take in each day. You must take this drug exactly how your doctor prescribed you to. You must avoid taking double doses of this drug without your physician’s consent. You should accompany each dose of Trisul with a full glass of water, with food or milk (in order to avoid stomach upset).
The average dose of Trisul in the case of children over 12 years old and adults consists of two tablets of Trisul at 12 hour intervals. In the case of children under 12 years of age, ask a pediatrician to tell you the correct dose of Trisul. However, your doctor could prescribe you a different dose than the one listed here. You must follow your physician’s instructions, because the correct dose of Trisul is known to vary from one patient to another depending on the patient’s age, weight, general health state and the infection type and severity. Smaller doses of Trisul should be prescribed to elderly patients, or to patient who suffer from kidney disorders.

Trisul Overdose

In order to avoid experiencing Trisul overdose, you should take in the exact number of Trisul tablets or the exact amount of Trisul suspension that your doctor has prescribed you.
If you suspect that you are suffering from an overdose with this drug, you might be in need of emergency medical care. Therefore, you should alert your local poison control center as soon as you can (if it is possible, you should take your Trisul container with you). Inform your personal physician of this.

Trisul Missed Dose

In order to get the best results from you treatment with Trisul, you must try to take this drug on a regular basis (at the same time each and every day). However, if you happen to forget to take one of your Trisul doses, you should simply skip it, and take the following scheduled dose at its due time.

Trisul Side Effects

Losses of appetite
Skin rashes
oral thrush (sore, furry, white mouth and tongue)

Abnormal bleeding or bruising
Infection symptoms (for example chills, fever, mouth ulcers or sore throat)
Jaundice
Fits
Little and sometimes even no urine
Swollen, painful, swollen joints
Sunburn symptoms (such as itching, redness, blistering, swelling)
Persistent and severe headache
Needles and pins in the feet and hands
Cough
Breath shortness

There are other side effects that have not been mentioned here, but that might occur. Please inform you doctor of anything unusual that might be liked to your treatment with Trisul.
