Trifeme Information

Trifeme is a pharmaceutical product belonging to the oral contraceptives class of medication. It is based on the combination of two hormones – Levonorgestrel and Ethinyloestradiol. This pharmaceutical preparation affects the female patients’ ability to conceive by stopping the egg maturation and release, by changing the consistency of the cervical mucus (thus making it harder for sperm to reach the egg) and by changing the lining of  the uterus so that it is less suitable for egg implantation.

Trifeme Indications

Trifeme is commonly prescribed as an oral contraceptive to female patients that do not wish to become pregnant. Also, this product may be employed in the treatment of certain hormonal disorders, or for the treatment of other medical affections that are not listed in this information guide. Trifeme Warnings

You should not take Trifeme if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this pharmaceutical product. Also, you may not start a Trifeme therapy course if you are suffering from blood clot disorders, heart rhythm or heart valve disorders that may be related to any blood clot disorders, from stroke or heart attack, angina pectoris, uncontrolled hypertension, certain types of migraine or headache, diabetes (where blood vessel damage is present), liver affections or certain types of hormone-related tumors (for example cancer of the vagina or cervix, of the lining of the womb or breast cancer). If you have any of the above medical conditions or are suspected of them, you may not start a treatment course with Trifeme.

You may not use Trifeme during pregnancy or lactation.

Trifeme Intake Guidelines

You should take your Trifeme doses exactly as advised by your health care professional. This medicine may be taken with or without food or water. Take your dose every day at around the same hours in order to obtain the best results from the therapy.

If you are taking oral contraceptives for the first time, start taking the Trifeme pills in the first day of your menstrual cycle, starting with the pill that matches the day of the week in the blister pack. If this happens between Monday and Friday, your tablet should be red. If it is Saturday or Sunday you should take a brown tablet. Afterwards, continue taking one tablet per day in the order indicated by the arrows on the blister pack. Once you have finished a blister pack, start a new one in the next day. At the beginning of your therapy, you should use another additional reliable contraceptive method (such as a diaphragm or a condom) until you have taken a brown or a white tablet daily in the right order for at least seven days without interruptions.

Trifeme Dosage

You should take one Trifeme tablet per day for the entire prescribed duration of the therapy. In some situations, your personal health care provider may instruct a different medication dosage. If this is the case, you should follow your prescriber’s indications. If you have any questions regarding the dosage or if you are not sure that you correctly understood the dosage information, it is best to ask your personal health care specialist for further clarifications.

Trifeme Overdose

You should avoid taking too much Trifeme at once. This may result in an overdose, characterized by symptoms such as dizziness, tiredness, nausea and vomiting. Women may experience abnormal vaginal bleeding. If at any point during your therapy you suspect that you are affected by an overdose with this pharmaceutical product, you should seek emergency medical care by going to the nearest hospital or clinic or by calling the regional or local poisons center.

Trifeme Missed Dose

In the event that you miss a dose of Trifeme, you should take it within 12 hours of the regular intake time, then continue taking the pills according to your schedule, even if that may mean taking two tablets in the same day. If more than twelve hours have passed, take the missed dose as soon as you remember and continue taking Trifeme according to schedule, however you should employ an additional reliable method of contraception (such as a diaphragm or a condom) until you have taken a brown or a white Trifeme tablet daily in the right order for at least seven days without interruptions, as the therapy may not be effective in preventing pregnancy any longer.

Trifeme Side Effects

There are several serious adverse reactions associated with the use of hormonal contraceptives. As such, you should inform your health care professional at once at any point of your Trifeme therapy if you begin experiencing any of the following: sharp chest pain, sudden breath shortness, blood coughing, calf muscle pain, chest pain or heaviness, dizziness, fainting, sudden headaches, vomiting, vision or speech disturbances, breast lumps, abdominal tenderness or pain, jaundice, allergic reactions, hypertension. Several other side effects are also possible, but generally they are less severe. It is best that you inform your personal health care professional of any unexpected signs or symptoms that may appear during your Trifeme therapy.

Trifeme Drug Reactions

Trifeme may interact with a number of pharmaceutical products, including Rifampicin, Rifabutin, certain antibiotics (Ampicillin and a number of penicillins and tetracyclines), Griseofulvin and other antifungal medication, most barbiturates, epilepsy medication including Topiramate, Carbamazepine, Primidone and Phenytoin, Ritonavir (an HIV medicine) or Modafinil. Other medicines that are not listed here may also interact with your oral contraceptive therapy.
