TOBREX

Tobrex Information

Tobrex is a popular antibiotic that is more commonly known under its generic name of Tobramycin ophthalmic. A treatment with this medical product is generally prescribed to patients who are suffering from bacterial eye infections.

Tobrex Indications

Tobrex is a well known antibiotic that is normally given in the treatment of eye infections, especially bacterial ones. However, this medicine could also serve some other purposes that have not been listed in this guide. Ask your personal physician for further information.

Tobrex Warnings

As Tobrex is a category B FDA pregnancy medicine, the effects of this drug on a growing fetus are not known. However, you should not take Tobrex if you are pregnant or if you are planning to be pregnant soon without your doctor’s consent. It has not been clearly established whether Tobrex’s ingredients are able to pass into the patient’s breast milk. Therefore, it is not known whether a treatment with this medicine could harm a nursing child or not. You should refrain from taking this drug if you are breastfeeding a child. Children and elderly patients are known to be more prone to developing this medicine’s side effects.

Tobrex Intake Guidelines

You should ask your personal physician how and when to take each of your doses of Tobrex. Do not disobey any of your doctor’s instructions. If you fail to understand some of them, you should ask a pharmacist, a nurse or a physician for more information. Store this medicine in a place that is away from heat and moisture (do not keep it in the bathroom or anywhere near the kitchen sink).

Wash you hands before using these eye drops. You should not allow the dropper to touch any surface (this includes hands and eyes) because the dropper is and should remain sterile (if it gets contaminated, it could cause eye infections). If you start suffering from an eye infection or if you suspect that the dropper is no longer sterile, you should alert your doctor. Before you use this drug for the first time, you should check if the Safety Strip on the bottle’s front has not been broken. Even if the bottle has not been opened, there should be a gap between the cap and the bottle. In order to break the bottle’s seal, you may tear the Safety Strip off.  If you are currently using another type of eye drops (other drugs) you should wait for at least 10 minutes before you apply another dose.  After you have taken all the doses that your doctor has prescribed you, you may find some extra medicine in the bottle. This is normal, but you should not remove this extra amount of Tobrex from the drug’s bottle.

Tobrex Dosage

Your personal healthcare provider will calculate the correct dose of Tobrex (the number of eye drops that you should use on a regular basis, in order to get the proper effects from your treatment with it). Do not make any alterations to the dose that your physician has prescribed you without his or her consent. Remember that the correct dose of Tobrex can (and usually does) vary from one patient to another, as it depends on the severity of the disorder, the patient’s general health condition, sex, age, etc. During your treatment with this medicine, your personal doctor might want to sometimes change your regular dose of Tobrex, depending on how your medical condition evolves.

Tobrex Overdose

Although an overdose with this medical product (Tobrex) is generally unlikely to happen, if you suspect that you might be suffering from an overdose with this drug or if you have ingested this medicine, you should seek emergency medical attention. Contact your local poison control centre at once. Inform your personal physician as soon as possible. If necessary, go to the nearest emergency room in order to receive a proper treatment for your medical condition.

Tobrex Missed Dose

In order to get the maximum benefit from your treatment with this medicine (Tobrex) you ought to make sure that you use each and every one of your scheduled doses of this medical product at their due time. However, if you happen to miss using a dose of this drug, we strongly recommend you to contact your personal health care specialist and ask him or her for further instructions (advice). You must not use double doses of this drug without your personal physician’s consent, as this is known to increase your risk of developing overdose with Tobrex.

Tobrex Side Effects

Patients who are using this medicine and who develop symptoms of a highly severe allergic reaction to this drug (closing of the throat; hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the tongue, lips, or face) should seek immediate medical care. Although no severe side effects are known to be triggered by a prolonged treatment with Tobrex, most patients who use this medicine develop eye redness, burning, irritation, stinging, itching, eyelid itching, blurred vision, eyelid swelling, or increased eye sensitivity to direct light. Although you may continue your treatment with this medicine, if you develop any of these unpleasant side effects you must immediately alert your personal physician.

Tobrex Drug Reactions

During your treatment with Tobrex you should avoid using other medicines, especially other eye drops, without your personal health care provider’s approval. Ask him or her for further information.
