You should stop your treatment with Trimethoprim as soon as possible and alert your personal health care provider at once if you develop any of these severe side effects:

• symptoms of an allergic reaction to this medicine (hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your tongue, lips, or face);
• unusual bruising or bleeding;
• fever or sore throat.

Intake of Trimethoprim could also trigger some other less severe side effects, that are more common, such as:

• vomiting, nausea, or decreased appetite;
• sore or swollen tongue;
• itching or rash.

Trimethoprim Drug Reactions

A treatment with Trimethoprim is known to increase the effects of some medicines such as phenytoin (Dilantin), leading to severe consequences. Ask your personal health care specialist if you are allowed to take any other medicines during your treatment with Trimethoprim.
