Eldepryl Information

Eldepryl is an almost near-to-white crystalline powder that is round, convex, scored, and uncoated tablet. It is freely soluble in water. Eldepryl is used to treat Parkinson’s disease, a disease associated with low levels of dopamine in your brain. The question how really Eldepryl works is not known but it is believed to prevent the breakdown of dopamine in your brain. After levedopa or carbidopa therapy begins to deteriorate, Eldepryl is usually added to a treatment regimen.

Eldepryl Indications

Eldepryl is mainly used to handle the stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control of Parkinson’s disease. It can be used as monotherapy in the early phases of the disease and as adjunctive therapy with levodopa . Eldepryl is also used to handle some muscular conditions that are caused by certain drugs such as Chlorpromazine (Thorazine), Fluphenazine (Prolixin), Perphenazine (Trilafon), and other more. Eldepryl Warnings

Eldepryl belongs in the FDA pregnancy category C. It is unknown whether Eldepryl will harm an unborn baby. It is more advisable for you to consult first your doctor before taking Eldepryl. Also, it is unknown whether Eldepryl will harm a nursing infant. Still, consult your doctor first before taking this medicine if you are breast-feeding a baby. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Eldepryl should be given with care to patients with the following:

• Peptic or Duodenal Ulcer
• Labile Hypertension
• Cardiac arrhythmias
• Serious Angina Pectoris or Psychosis

Eldepryl Intake Guidelines

Follow the prescription of your doctor if you are to take Eldepryl. You may also ask your pharmacist or nurse about things you do not understand. Take each dose with full glass of water. Follow your doctor’s prescription. This medicine is usually taken twice a day, at breakfast and lunch. Do not take larger dosage than are given. It will have a greater and sever effect on you.

Overdose of Eldepryl may be characterized with:

• Excitement
• Irritability
• Nervousness
• Insomnia
• Dizziness

• Hallucinations

• Seizures
• Drowsiness
• Fainting
• hypotension
• Hypertension
• Hyperactivity
• Agitation
• Vascular Collapse
• Rapid and Irregular Pulse
• Precordial Pain
• Respiratory Depression and Failure
• Hyperpyrexia

Eldepryl Missed Dose

Immediately take the missed dose as soon as you remember but if it is almost time for the nest dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to schedule. It is important to remember not to take a double dose of this medication.

Eldepryl Side Effects

Severe side effects of this product may include the following:

• Allergic reactions such as difficulty in breathing; closing of throat; swelling of lips, tongue, or face; or hives)
• Severe headaches
• Restlessness, agitation, or irritability
• Sweating
• Convulsions
• Uncontrollable or Irregular movements
• Dizziness or drowsiness
• Nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea
• Insomnia or vivid dreams
• Mild confusion, agitation, or anxiety
• Mild headache
• Dry mouth

Other side effects may also occur other than the above mentioned. Inform your doctor if you feel anything unusual.  

Eldepryl Drug Reactions

Eldepryl may be dangerous if taken with the following drugs:

• Flouxetine (Prozac)
• Meperidine (Demerol)
