RIFINAH

Rifinah Information

Rifinah is an antibiotic with a medium and broad spectrum of action. It is based on two active ingredients, Rifampicin and Isoniazid, and it is available under two dosage forms: Rifinah 150, containing 100 mg Isoniazid and 150 mg Rifampicin, and Rifinah 300, containing 150 mg Isoniazid and 300 mg Rifampicin.

Rifinah Indications

Rifinah is commonly employed in the treatment of patients suffering from tuberculosis; due to its strong bactericidal effect against M. tuberculosis, it can be employed in all types of the affection, allowing patients suffering from chronic tuberculosis to benefit from the treatment as well as patients affected by the fresh or the advanced type of the condition.

Rifinah may also be employed in monotherapy or in combination with other pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of other medical conditions that are not listed in this informational guide. If you are unsure why you should start a treatment with this medicine, you should consult your prescriber for additional information.

Rifinah Warnings

Rifinah may not be used in the case of patients affected by jaundice or porphyria, or in the case of patients that have a known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of this product’s ingredients. Patients suffering from renal or hepatic impairment may only be administered this medicine under controlled conditions, and special dosage adjustments may be required. Other medical conditions may also affect your ability to start a treatment course with this product. As such, it is best that you inform your prescriber regarding your medical history and present health state before starting a therapy with this pharmaceutical preparation.

Usage of this medicine during pregnancy or lactation is not recommended unless the benefits of the therapy clearly outweigh the potential risks. While following a treatment course with this medicine, female patients are strongly encouraged to employ an effective contraceptive method.

Rifinah Intake Guidelines

You should take your Rifinah doses at least 30 minutes prior to a meal, or at least two hours after one. You should swallow the tablets whole, without breaking, chewing or crushing them. If swallowing the tablets whole becomes too difficult or if you begin to experience stomach upset, you may take the tablets with a glass of water.

Your prescriber will provide you with a full set of intake guidelines. You are strongly encouraged to closely follow your prescriber’s indications. If the guidelines that you have received differ from the above information, you should follow your prescriber’s directions.

Rifinah Dosage

The Rifinah dosage that you will be prescribed may differ from the following information, as we only provide the average dosage employed. You are strongly advised to only use the medication dosage that your personal health care professional has directed.

The exact Rifinah dosage is determined based on the patient’s body mass. Typically, the prescriber will recommend a dosage of 8 to 12 mg per kg of body weight, averaging to a daily dose of around 450 mg per day for patients weighing less than 50 kg and 600 mg for patients with a body mass above that value. In general, lower doses are used in the case of elder patients and for the treatment of patients that are suffering from moderate renal or hepatic dysfunction, while in the case of patients with severe liver damage the medication dosage should under no circumstances exceed 8 mg / kg of body weight.

This medicine is inappropriate for the treatment of children.

Rifinah Overdose

An overdose with Rifinah is a severe medical condition which requires immediate medical assistance. The symptoms of an overdose with this pharmaceutical product include hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, respiratory distress and coma. If you think that you may be under the effects of an overdose with this drug, immediately contact the local poisons center or the nearest medical facility even if no visible signs and symptoms are present.

In order to avoid overdosing, you should never use larger doses of the medicine and you should discontinue the medication therapy when your personal physician advises you to do so.

Rifinah Missed Dose

If you accidentally miss one of your Rifinah intakes, it is strongly recommended to take it when you remember about it if less than two hours have passed since the normal intake time. However, if more time has passed, or if you have missed several doses of the medicine, it is best that you seek the advice of your supervising health care professional. In some situations you will be advised to take the next dose on time and continue your treatment, making sure that you do not miss any more doses of the medicine while in other situations more complex measures may be required to ensure that the Rifinah treatment is brought back to its normal course.

Rifinah Side Effects

Several adverse reactions have been associated with Rifinah usage. Some of these may be severe and require immediate medical attention while others are mild and transient, caused by the organism adjusting to the medication. In any case, you should inform your personal health care professional of any abnormal changes in your condition for monitoring and, when necessary, intervention.

The side effects associated with Rifinah usage include hepatic and allergic reactions, cutaneous reactions (flushing, itching, erythema, toxic epidermal necrolysis, the Stevens-Johnson syndrome, vasculitis), gastro-intestinal affections (anorexia, abdominal pain or discomfort, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea). The list of possible Rifinah side effects is not complete; other adverse reactions that are not listed here may appear as well.

Rifinah Drug Reactions

Rifinah may interact with certain drugs, affecting their effectiveness or having its effectiveness reduced. Examples of such medicines are Cyclosporin, Warfarin, corticosteroids, analgesics, narcotics, calcium channel blockers. You are advised to inform your prescriber of any other drugs you are currently taking before you start a treatment with Rifinah. Also, you should consult your prescriber before starting to take any other medication during the course of your therapy.
