Actos Information

Actos is an anti-hyperglycemic agent. This means it helps the body respond better to insulin and it also reduces the amount of sugar released by the liver. This drug can help control blood sugar levels.

Actos Indications

Along with diet and exercise, Actos is used in the treatment of Type II diabetes. It is also used with sulfonylurea, metformin and insulin for blood sugar control when diet and exercise or any of these drugs alone don’t work.

Actos Warnings

Actos is not compatible with the following conditions:

• Heart failure or heart disease
• Edema
• Type I diabetes mellitus
• Need surgery
• Any type of infection, illness or injury

Your doctor may not allow you to take Actos or may adjust your dosage.

Consult your doctor first before taking this drug if you have liver disease. While taking this drug do not skip meals, exercise excessively, or consume alcohol for it may cause hypoglycemia. This drug may also diminish the effects of some birth control pills so inform your doctor if you have no plans of being pregnant. Actos is in the FDA pregnancy Category C, which means that it may or may not be harmful to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor first before taking this drug if you are pregnant.

Actos Intake Guidelines

Actos Dosage

Actos Overdose

The symptoms of overdose of this drug are unknown. However, seek medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Actos Missed Dose

Immediately take the missed dose as soon as remembered. But if you haven’t remembered until the next day, skip the missed dose and consume the subsequent dose according to schedule. It is important to remember not to take a double dose of this medicine.

Actos Side Effects

Actos may cause serious side effects and allergic reactions, which may include any of the following:

• Difficulty breathing
• Closing of the throat
• Swelling of the face, lips, and tongue
• Hives
• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or loss of appetite
• Unusual fatigue
• Jaundice
• Dark urine

Temporarily stop taking Actos and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of these serious side effects.

Inform your doctor immediately if edema or unusually rapid increase in weight, shortness of breath or chest pain while taking Actos. These may be early signs of heart problems.

Actos is more likely to cause less serious side effects, which may include any of the following:

• Headache
• Muscle ache
• Sore throat, nasal discharge or cold symptoms

Actos Drug Reactions

 Actos may interact with birth control pills. It decreases the result of these pills. Talk to your doctor so that he may suggest other methods to help birth control. Over-the-counter medications for cough, cold, allergy, pain, or weight loss may also interact with Actos. Other medications not mentioned may also interact with Actos. Inform your doctor if you are taking other drugs.
