Azopt Information

Azopt is an eye drop. It decreases the pressure in the eye by reducing the amount of fluid in it.

Azopt Indications

Azopt is used primarily to treat open- angle glaucoma or high pressure in the eyes. However, it may also be used for other purposes not mentioned here.

Azopt Warnings

Do not use this drug if you ever have had an allergic reaction to a sulfa-based drug, which includes trimethoprim or sulfamethoxazole, sulfisoxazole, sulfamethoxazole or sulfacetamide sodium without first talking to your doctor. This drug is based on a sulfa drug so you may experience an allergic reaction to it.

Be careful not to contaminate the dropper by touching any surface including the eyes or hands. If contaminated, it may cause infection to your eyes. This drug may cause discoloration of contact lenses.

Azopt is not compatible with kidney or liver disease. Inform your doctor if you have any of these conditions for he may not allow you to take this medication or may need to adjust your dosage.

This drug belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that it may or may not be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not use this drug without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant. It is unknown either if this drug passes through breast milk. Inform your doctor before taking Azopt if you are breastfeeding a baby.

Azopt Intake Guidelines

Azopt should be taken in exactly as instructed by your doctor. If there are things that you do not understand about the instructions refer to your nurse, pharmacist or doctor.

Make sure your hands are clean before using this product. Make sure you wash them well. Shake the container thoroughly before using. If wearing contact lenses, remove them before applying Azopt.

In applying the eye drops, tilt your head back and pull down your lower lid. Place the dropper above your eye while you are looking up and away from the dropper. Squeeze a drop then close the eye. Gentle pressure should be applied to the inside corner of the eye so as not to drain the liquid down the tear duct.

Do not use if you notice any kind of discoloration or particles in the product.

Azopt Dosage

Dosage of Azopt should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to many factors.

Azopt Overdose

Overdose symptoms of Azopt are yet unknown. If overdose is suspected, flush the eye with water and seek immediate medical attention. Seek medical attention also if this product is accidentally ingested.

Azopt Missed Dose

Do not miss a dose of this product. If a dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to schedule. It is important to remember not to take a double dose of this medication.

Azopt Side Effects

• Difficulty in breathing
• Closing of the throat
• Swelling of the lips, tongue or face
• Hives

If you experience any of these, stop using this medication, and seek immediate medical attention.

Other less serious die effects are more likely to occur:

• Burning, stinging, itching, or watering of the eye
• Blurred vision
• Sensitivity of the eye to sunlight
• Change in taste
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Rashes
• Nausea

If you experience any of these, continue using this product but inform your doctor immediately.

Other side effects may also occur. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual in your body while or after taking Azopt.
